Project Description
Jan 2020
As winter begins to roar, our thoughts turn to warmer geographies, and what better image than the beauty (and warmth!) of Keaau, Hawaii.
Jack C. installed a new aluminum gate with copper panels, shown here on the windward side of the Big Island of Hawaii. He tells us that this area experiences high humidity to go along with over 100 inches of rainfall per year. In addition, the trade winds carry in salt air.
Needless to say, this is a harsh environment for metals. He shares how his experience with aluminum results in oxidation from the salt air, forming the white chalky substance over it. But he elected to also use Permalac as “it is a superior product that prevents oxidation of the aluminum, and also will keep the bright copper panels from undergoing patina. It sprays on easily over bare metal, is self leveling, and has a great finish”.
Jack, if there was ever a time we wish we could personally hand you the winners gift card it is now (it was 23 degrees this morning in Philadelphia). It’s in the mail, with our congratulations for being this month’s winner in the Permalac project contest.
