Project Description
Sept 2020
Our winning entry for August in the Permalac Contest is Hector Ortega, from Phoenix. His work, which spans different mediums, takes inspiration from the beauty of the desert and area of Arizona. His work with steel offers abstract movement and interesting geometry.
The winning piece is titled “Heavanly” and was inspired by the directional movements of surrounding ski slopes that cut through the mountain sides in the Buffalo Creek, CO. area. The finish is a rich oxidized natural earth tone, hand fabricated, patinated, all the jazz that come with a handcrafted work of art. Permalac was used to maintain the beauty of the finished art.
“Steel as a medium has enabled me to translate gentle arcs, rolling waves, and tapering geometries into forms that once interconnected will evoke a sense of place, calm, order to our environment.”
Stunning, isn’t it? Hector’s sculptures can been found in private collections throughout the western United States. His website is a great place to see his other scupltures.
Our thanks to Hector for sharing this amazing sculpture, and for his continued use of Permalac.
