Permalac typically lasts up to 10 years on indoor structures and approximate 3-5 years on outdoor structures with a single application (3 coats minimum indoors and 4 coats minimum outdoors). Our formula has not changed, though the design of our cans has. Permalac spray cans have a shelf life of 2-3 years from the date of manufacture, after which they should be safely discarded. Quarts, gallons and larger sizes have a shelf life of 2 years from the date of manufacture. You should have the same lacquer, but all of our products now come with a specific designation as to which finish it is.
Can you buff to shine permalac 2k.
Hello Horace. Yes, the 2K can be buffed to improve the shine.
Hello, we use this product for bronze plates.
Recently we’ve been noticing cloudiness and particles settling out on the bottom of our new cans. This has been since around 2019.
Hi Matt. No, the product formula has not changed recently. It does have an expiration of 2 years from the date of manufacture (small sticker on the can with format YYMMDD). The cloudiness and settling often happens as a result of frequent usage of Permalac from the same can. If the can is constantly opened and closed, it comes into contact with air and the solvents naturally will evaporate the more that happens. Therefore, you can usually resolve by adding more solvent into the formula. If you are seeing a different issue, please call our technical support line by dialing 215-719-4400 and choosing the options for tech support. We can usually fix these issues quickly, or replace the product under warranty if we deem it is a batch problem.
Can I apply permalac over a previously clear coated front door? I do not know what the original clear coat was made of. It could be water, oil , or lacquer based. Will it work or should i be concerned regarding any of these?
Hi Mark. Permalac can be safely over existing latex, acrylic, or lacquer-based coatings. It may work with oil-based products (depending on the product) and it is NOT compatible over enamel-based products.
