A base layer of Permalac, preferably two coats of Permalac NT or three coats of Permalac Original/EF, is recommended before applying Permalac SR. Once the base layers are done, one coat of Permalac SR is used as a final layer to provide scratch resistance. Permalac SR is available in both satin and matte finishes, and each gallon can cover an area of 350 square feet in a single coat. This is a 4-quart bundle.   • #500 Retarding Thinner can be added to the Permalac Original, Permalac EF, or Permalac NT. It should be used to extend flow time and prevent solvent blush when working in high temperatures or high relative dew points. This will make Permalac take around an hour to set up. Use between 2-5%.   • #770 Thinner is a medium-speed lacquer thinner formulated with VOC-exempt solvents. It is designed for use with Permalac EF or Permalac NT and should be used when the ambient temperature is 55°F to 88°F. When spraying, thin between 20-50%. If the Permalac is drying too quickly and you notice blush or any other adverse effects, reduce this to 30% and add 2-5% of #500 thinner to negate this. When brushing, thin 10% (only if you notice brush strokes or irregularities).

  • This is a VOC-exempt thinner best used with the Permalac NT. Use when the ambient temperature is 55°F to 88°F. When spraying, thin between 20% and 50%. If the Permalac is drying too quickly and you notice blush or any other adverse effects, you can reduce this to 30% and add 2-5% of #500 thinner to negate this. When brushing, thin 10% (only if you notice brush strokes or irregularities).

  • #281 Thinner is a regular-speed lacquer thinner. Use it when the ambient temperature is 50°F to 65°F. Thin Permalac Original, EF 20% when spraying.   • #69 Thinner is a medium-speed lacquer thinner. Use when the ambient temperature is 66°F to 85°F. When spraying, thin 20%. If the Permalac is drying too quickly, and you notice blush or other adverse effects, you can increase this to 30%. When brushing, thin 10%. This is a 4-quart bundle.   • The Permalac Strip Thinner is a blend of solvents designed to dissolve and remove cured Permalac Original, Permalac EF, Permalac NT, and Permalac SR from metal surfaces without marring the substrate. This material is composed of VOC-exempt solvents.
