Permalac Original Formula

Permalac Original is a protective, water-clear, fast-drying, solvent-based lacquer coating. It is a direct-to-substrate (DTS) coating, meaning it is designed to be applied to a myriad of surfaces directly without the use of a primer. Permalac’s state-of-the-art UV and corrosion inhibitors, as well as wide-ranging temperature stabilizers, assure endurance in the harshest conditions ranging from arctic freezing to desert heat, to beachfront salt air to acid rain. You can apply it to most metal, wood, or stone surfaces whether the surfaces are bare or painted. Permalac can behave as both a sealer (in case you decide to paint over it) or as a highly resistant topcoat, providing protection from all types of environmental corrosives. It has outstanding adhesion to a variety of substrates, including patinated and polished metals (copper, brass, bronze, steel, aluminum, zinc, etc.), hard woods, fiberglass, and masonry or stone products in both land and marine applications. On metals, Permalac is flexible and does not separate when the metal is bent. It also provides absolute protection for circuit breakers and other electrical components from molds and mildew, helping to avoid short-circuiting and other disruptive difficulties. Permalac can be sprayed or brushed on and, can be used in interior or exterior applications. It is available in either satin or matte sheens. Coverage is 400 square feet per gallon in a single coat.

Permalac EF, NT, and SR Formulas (VOC-Compliant, Ultra Low-VOC, Scratch-Resistant)

Permalac EF: Like the Original formula, Permalac EF is also a direct-to-substrate (DTS) coating, but in a more environmentally friendly format. Permalac EF has a VOC concentration less than the 250 g/l mandated by California law. In laboratory and field testing, Permalac EF performs just as well as standard Permalac, without the strong odor! Therefore, if you are looking for a product most similar to the user-friendliness of the Permalac Original, but environmentally compliant in your territory, the Permalac EF is a great choice. It can be applied on metal, wood, and stone substrates, in addition to fiberglass and other unique products. Permalac EF also complies with most government regulations for interior use lacquer products. This makes it the ideal treatment for inside window and door frames and the decorative metal in commercial building lobbies and elevators. Permalac EF is available in either matte or satin finishes. Coverage is 400 square feet per gallon in a single coat.

Permalac NT: Permalac NT is our most ecological formula, with under 70 g/l of VOCs! It contains NO TOLUENE, has little to no odor, and demonstrates exceptional performance given its ultra-low VOC value. The Permalac NT provides excellent durability on steel, aluminum, brass, and bronze, as well as on other substrates such as stone, wood, and fiberglass. Our Permalac NT product has been FDA food-grade tested and also holds a ClearChem certification in being compliant according to LEED standards. It is suitable for indoor and outdoor application. Permalac NT is available in semi-gloss, satin, matte, and ultra-flat sheens. Coverage is 400 square feet per gallon in a single coat.

Permalac SR: Permalac SR is a one-part, clear, scratch-resistant topcoat. This product is VOC-compliant according to CA state guidelines. It is recommended that base layers of Permalac, either 2 coats of Permalac NT (recommended) or 3 coats of Permalac Original/EF, be done prior to applying the Permalac SR. Apply 1 coat of the Permalac SR on top to provide a final, scratch-resistant layer. It is available in satin or matte finishes. Coverage is 350 square feet per gallon in a single coat.

Permalac Thinners

Permalac Thinners are specially formulated for use with Permalac products (clearcoats and tinted). They are recommended for use when spraying Permalac through spray guns or to help prevent the appearance of streaks while applying the lacquer via brush. Our Permalac thinners can also be used for surface preparation of the substrate (prior to applying Permalac) and cleanup/removal after the product has been applied.

Permalac Blackener (Transparent-Tinted)

Permalac Blackener consists of our base Permalac lacquer formula with a proprietary blend of transparent black tint and stabilizers added to keep the product performing at its best. The Permalac Blackener allows you to seal and blacken your metal in one step, no patina chemicals required. Use it to easily and quickly create a blackened steel or anodized look. Available in the Original and NT product lines in a variety of sheens. Coverage is 400 square feet per gallon in a single coat.

Permalac Colors (Opaque & Transparent Varieties)

Permalac Colors consist of highly-tinted Permalac products. Permalac Original Black, Original Copper, and NT Copper offer total opacity for full substrate cover with a single coating. On the other hand, Permalac NT Bronze, Brass, Rose Gold, and Christmas Gold offer beautiful transparent finishes, lightly coating your substrate to allow for the underlining texture, whether on wood, metal, or stone, to still be revealed. Available in the Original and NT product lines in a variety of sheens. Coverage is 400 square feet per gallon in a single coat.

Permalac Tints (For Custom Tinting)

Permalac, Permalac EF, Permalac NT, and Permalac 2K can also be tinted with our line of translucent tints. These tints come in seven colors: gold, copper, yellow, red, black, violet, and blue. These tints are color-fast and will not fade and can be mixed to make a custom patina. Available in small and large volumes. Dilute and use according to need.

Permalac Matting Compounds (To Subdue Sheen)

Peacock Matting Compounds are substances used to dull down the sheen of pre-formulated lacquers. These compounds are compatible with all Permalac products. Compounds available in powder and paste forms.

“The product was infallible. Permalac not only acts as a fungicide that resists mold, it positively repels it. Mold simply can’t and won’t grow on it.”

Aside from protecting the carefully finished metal surface, Permalac has the advantage of being invisible. Unlike other lacquers it doesn’t give architectural coatings a plastic coated appearance and sheen.

“Permalac is extremely easy to use, cures in about 2 hours, and can be sprayed vertically or horizontally without drip formation. Permalac just melts into itself, but even if a texture did develop, we just spray a little more Permalac and we obtain that smooth-as-glass finish our customers require.”
